The third video in the on-going series, this one was the most collaborative. The main message of the video was to highlight what xenophobia is and how it’s rooted in the creation of identity.
To create a sense of self or an ‘us’, we create an ‘other’. We define who we are by listing who we’re not. If this sense of the ‘other’ takes a negative turn it can lead to prejudice, discrimination, and xenophobia.
In a world where people fall prey to the dangers of a single story as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie puts it, my friend Idil and I worked on this project to try and highlight the importance of self-awareness to combat xenophobia.
